Mildred Hucks Singleton Obituary

Mildred  (Maxine) Hucks Singleton, 61 passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at her home with her loving family by her side.

Maxine Hucks Singleton

In a family full of fireworks, Maxine may have packed the greatest “BLAST” in the smallest package.  She was fiercely independent and unconditional in her willingness to be understanding and supportive to all she loved. Maxine was the “life of the party”, regardless of where she was or who was in attendance. Maxine is the daughter of Mack Worth Hucks (the most interesting man in the world) and the late Ruth Smith Hucks (a champion bowler and world class adventurist extraordinaire).  Maxine shared an incredibly close relationship with her stepmother, the late Polly Annette Hucks (Good Golly Mrs. Polly).  She was the mother of a son, who some would argue,” could be the most handsome man on the planet”.  A son whose proudest memories of his mother was the life she provided as a single mother, a life to the fullest; A life without shortages.  To a daughter who inherited her mother’s fierce independence, her unwillingness to compromise on issues she believed to be true and fair, and her ability to provide for her family through sheer determination.  Maxine was a glamorous grandmother (Glam-Ma) to five grandchildren (Emerson, Kate, Chase, Abigail and Brooke).  The latter two being twins and more closely rivaling in mischievous behavior of Thing 1 and Thing 2 of famed Dr. Seuss books.  Maxine was a sister to eight siblings (Keith, Ann, Susan, Bonnie, Sharon, Dean, Connie and Timmy), who she would be willing to fight (usually not fairly) and fight for (again, not fairly), and a witty aunt to their children.  Our mother and her siblings loved each other through “thick and thin”, and we pray that truth can help mend their broken hearts. Maxine was a niece to a loving melody of Aunts and Uncles, the perks of sharing a bloodline with Hucks, Smiths, and Jordans in Horry County.  A motley crew of cousins (too many to list), some of which would more closely consider her a sister and vice versa.  She was beloved by in-laws, a bond forged in marriage that could not be broken by time, distance, nor divorce.  Our mother’s relationship with friends, a relationship so dear to her, that they would be considered family to the children she leaves behind.  The names of family members no longer with us and those alive today who had such an impact on our mother, who in return shaped our lives, is greatly appreciated.  God’s word teaches us through Paul’s writing “that to be home in the body we are absent from the Lord……..and to be absent from the body we are to be in the presence of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5: 6-8).  No greater consolation in these times of heartache than the truths and promises of our Heavenly Father.

The family truly regrets that due to the Coronavirus and CDC regulations, A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Singleton is entrusted to the care of Lewis Crematory and Funeral Services, Myrtle Beach, S.C.
