Hilda Hamed Obituary

Hilda Brown Hamed, 84, of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, passed away on April 6, 2026, leaving behind a family forever shaped by her strength, faith, and boundless love.

Born on June 19, 1941, in Geneva, Alabama, Hilda carried with her the warmth and roots of her Southern upbringing throughout her life. She spent her working years in Fairfax, Virginia, where she built a distinguished career with the United States Secret Service. After retirement, she settled into the coastal life of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, where she became the steady heart of her family for generations.

Hilda was a woman of remarkable character — sharp-minded, proud, and deeply faithful. She had a gift for lively conversation and was never one to shy away from a good debate, especially when she was winning. Her family will fondly remember her passion for the stock market and investing, a subject she could discuss with the enthusiasm and expertise of someone who truly loved the game.

At home, Hilda found joy in the quiet pleasures — tending to her plants and spending peaceful hours watching the birds. But nothing lit her up quite like her great-grandchildren. She could watch them for hours, and those who knew her knew there was nowhere else she’d rather be.

Family gatherings were her love language. Whether it was a spirited game of cards or a night out at a hibachi restaurant — really, any restaurant would do — Hilda was most herself surrounded by the people she adored.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Harris; granddaughters Danielle Harris and Taylor Roberts; Danielle’s daughter, Emma Harris; Taylor’s husband, Austin Roberts, and their children, Colson, Addison, and Hunter. She is also survived by her brother, Phillip Earl Brown (Janice), and her sister, Sarah Francis Rice.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Earl Brown and Margret Matthews Brown; her sister, Sue Gayron “Gay” Tyler, wife of Billy Tyler; and her brother-in-law, Keith Rice.

Hilda’s mind was sharp, her pride was quiet, her faith was unshakeable, and her love was the kind that doesn’t leave — it just changes shape. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
