Elida (Lee) Gares, 72 of Little River, SC and formerly of Brodheadsville PA, died on January 29, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Albert. And Alice Redmond. Lee graduated from Union County College and Kean University of NJ earning several associates, Bachelor's, and Master's degrees. Lee earned her final Master's degree in Special Education at Hunter's College NY.
Lee was a Deaf/Blind Specialist, Vocational Counselor, for the State of NJ.
She also worked in Pennsylvania as a vision rehabilitation specialist and mobility and orientation after her retirement from NJ.
Lee was one of three people who founded the Deaf Blind League of NJ (DBLNJ). She volunteered with DBLNJ for 34 years as an interpreter, President, and Secretary.
She served on the board of AER of NJ for several years.
She was also the correspondence secretary for the Pennsylvania Council of the Blind of Monroe County Pa.
Lee was a member of Grace Christian Fellowship Church in Little River SC. She was also a former member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Brodheadsville PA.
Lee is survived by her husband of 54 years Chester G. Gares Jr., of Little River SC. Two sons Chester G. Gares III, and his wife Tracy of Longs, SC. Joseph B Gares, and his wife Gini of Kenilworth NJ. Her daughter Rebecca M. Gares and companion Stephen, of Pen Argyl PA. Her grandchildren Joey, Nicole, Rebecca, Rachel, Christina, Justin, Corey, Anthony, and Jasmeet. Two Great Grandchildren Lilly and Toby. Her brother Joseph and his wife Marie of Manville, NJ. Several Nieces and Nephews.
