Erik Thayer Obituary

Erik Randolph Thayer, age 58, passed away at 6:30 a.m. August 20, 2019 at Embrace Hospice in Conway, South Carolina, after an 8 month battle with cancer.

Erik was born December 15, 1960 in Arlington, Virginia to parents Helen Joanna and Luke Thayer. After attending Mt. Vernon High School, he continued to spend most of his life living in Northern Virginia and Woodbridge. Erik loved working independently and started his own trucking business where he contracted with many local companies hauling, welding, and keeping Virginia’s interstates safe during the winter months of ice and snow. As a child, he played football and baseball with his brother and neighborhood friends. He was an avid lover of the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his beloved Golden Retriever that he had for 15 years. Erik was known by his friends to have a warm heart and was willing to help anyone that he could. He was a loving father and grandfather.

Erik is survived by his wife, Christine Thayer, daughter, Amber Thayer and grand-children Jaelyn and Caleb, all of Northern Virginia. Other survivors include his sister Glenda Algozzini and brother-in-law Frank Algozzini of North Charleston, SC, his sister Rhonda Duffy and brother- in- law John Duffy of Stockbridge, GA and his brother Luke Thayer, IV of Fredericksburg, VA. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Erik and his family are very grateful for the loving care received in his last months of life by the wonderful friends in his community in Conway, SC, especially Zaire Grissett. She was his angel.

Erik will be cremated and his ashes placed by his daughter in a location of his wishes. There will be no service. Sympathy donations may be made to “Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids” in his memory, https://www.tobaccofreekids.org/.

He will always be with us in our hearts.
