Donald Willis Obituary

Donald L. Willis of Georgetown passed away October 14, 2019 after a long battle with lung cancer.  Don was born July 24, 1940 in Plaquemine, Louisiana, son of the late Alton Rogers and Rita Mae Joffrion Willis.

Don grew up in Elberta, AL, before serving in the US Marines for over 10 years.  He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sgt (E-7).  He received a Bronze Star Medal with Combat Valor.

After his military service he moved to Florence, SC, where he became assistant manager of Kmart.  He later worked for Nucor Steel in Darlington, SC until his retirement.

Don moved to Georgetown, SC in 2014 where he loved saltwater fishing.  Don was a member of the Florence Baptist Temple.

He leaves behind his wife, Kem Willis; his brother, David Willis (Pam) of Foley, AL; His children Brian Willis of Pennsylvania; Kimberly Willis of Charleston; Dawn Sellers (Mike) of Florence, SC; and Dustin Willis of Florence, SC.  He is also survived by his stepchildren Cynthia Kirshy and Jonathan DeWitt (Mary Alice), both of Florence, SC; granddaughter Scarlet Sellers of New Mexico; step grandchildren Elizabeth Kirshy of Atlanta, GA, Charlie and Davis DeWitt, both of Florence, SC.  Don was preceded in death by his parents and sister Dixie Lee Wood (Ralph).

A Private Celebration of Life has been held by his family.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Mercy Care Hospice for their outstanding love and care, especially to his nurse Rose for her compassionate care.
